Ease Into Calm With Mindful Writing
Pause. Breathe. Write.
Meet yourself on the page.
Try it for only 2-3 minutes a day.
If you miss a day, no problem.

Have you tried different ways to feel less stressed, yet nothing seems to be working?
Too much stress can cause serious health problems, or worse. You deserve to lead a happier, healthier, and longer life.

As someone who's gotten seriously ill due to stress, I know the importance of finding calm.

You might find it hard to believe that simply putting pen to paper to write could give you peace of mind, groundedness, and increased vitality. Through clinical research, James Pennebaker, author of Opening Up: The Healing Power of Expressing Emotions, discovered that writing makes people happier, healthier and less anxious.

Combining writing and meditation can help people with anxious thoughts or 'monkey mind' to see these thoughts for what they are – just thoughts – once they get them out of their heads and onto paper. Truth is most of us go around with myriad notions running rampant in our heads. Rarely do we take the time to explore how these thoughts influence our mental health and general well-being.

Why not give it a try?

This evening while writing my sound experiences, I became aware of the layering of sounds in my environment: a siren in the distance, a dog barking in response, and noise from the highway, very quickly shifting to home as the refrigerator kicked on and rain began to fall again. My awareness came even closer as I heard my hand moving on the paper and the pen dotting i’s and crossing t’s.

The Benefits

As someone who has seen the incredible benefits of mindful writing, my hope is that you’ll take to this practice like a fish to a river. Spend three minutes or five a day to start.

Here are some benefits to taking the course:

-
Doing a mindful writing exercise in the morning can clear the cobwebs and add a spring to your step for the rest of the day.
-
Discover how you’re feeling. Sometimes we don’t know how we’re feeling because we might push our emotions down in the rush to get things done.
-
Understanding that you have the inner resources to help yourself.
-
Mindful writing allows you to be present, get grounded.
-
Like meditation, mindful writing helps us access feelings of joy and excitement more readily, as opposed to being in the pit of our life.

I start each exercise thinking "This is stupid. I can't do this," but I hold my pen over the pages anyway and suddenly off it goes. Six pages later I'm astounded how deep the writing is....
...The words are no longer in the dark cramped cave of my brain. They've moved into my chest where there is room and light and air and energy. They can mingle and form sentences that my heart pumps through my arm, down my hand and onto the page

Hi, I’m Lissa!
I know what it's like to feel so stressed that you're afraid to let your guard down. When I was 30 years old, I became very ill with endometriosis, a debilitating chronic disease whereby the tissue lining the uterus grows in other areas of the body, such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or bladder. These endometriosis lesions become inflamed and bleed, causing pain and other symptoms.

My illness forced me to stop driving myself so hard and take an honest look at my life. I began to see a therapist, got back to practicing yoga and meditation, and most importantly, I returned to writing—a passion of mine since I was a kid.

Over the years I've realized that writing is much more than a simple art. Writing has the power to heal, reveal, and help us to find our centres—our unique and wondrous selves.

Ready to reignite your joy?
I created my first writing meditation course for the DailyOM over a decade ago. Since that time I’ve helped thousands of people in many countries connect to that sweet space within. People have told me that they’ve come to know themselves better as a result of my courses. Others have expressed surprise at what comes out of their pen, and how they didn’t realize how creative they were or how deep their emotions. Some are amazed at the feelings of ease that inhabit them when they’re writing and reflecting.
